Ambassador Visits EiTEX, Showcasing Innovation, Creativity, and Industrial Linkages
As part of his official visit to BDU, H.E. Ervin Massinga, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, toured the Ethiopian Institute of Textile and Fashion Technology (EiTEX), one of the campuses of the university.
The visit provided a vibrant platform to showcase the Institute’s work in textile engineering, fashion design, and industrial innovation. Faculty members, researchers, and students presented a wide range of projects demonstrating both technical expertise and creative excellence, reflecting EiTEX’s strong alignment with industry needs and global standards.
A highlight of the visit was a live fashion showcase held at the Institute’s fashion hall, where students presented original designs that blended contemporary trends with Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. The presentation not only illustrated the students’ artistic capabilities but also underscored the Institute’s role in nurturing the next generation of creative industry leaders.
The Ambassador also toured key facilities, including the Selam Knitting Factory, demonstrating practical industrial production and student engagement in manufacturing processes, the Indigenous Textiles Workshop, highlighting the preservation and modernization of Ethiopia’s traditional textile heritage, and the Medical Textile Laboratory, showcasing innovative applications of textiles in healthcare and research.
These visits collectively illustrated EiTEX’s unique integration of education, research, and industry collaboration, positioning it as a hub for innovation-driven development.
In recognition of the Ambassador’s visit, a symbolic gift was presented as a token of appreciation and to commemorate the occasion. The Ambassador expressed admiration for the Institute’s achievements and its potential to contribute to economic development, job creation, and global textile innovation.
