Bahir Dar University Launches Induction Training for 125 New Academic Staff
Bahir Dar University, October 10, 2026

The three-day training—running from October 10 to 12—is being organized by the Training and Institutional Transformation Executive Office in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Quality Management.
The program focuses on key areas such as higher education pedagogy, curriculum development, course planning, and effective teaching methodologies.

Participants will receive detailed training on teaching practices, curriculum and course planning, inclusive teaching approaches, and the use of educational technology. In his address, Professor Dessalegn Ejigu, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated that the training was organized to familiarize instructors—whether newly recruited or transferred—with the university's current status, operational procedures, and strategic direction. He also highlighted the significant role the institution plays in enhancing the quality of education in the country through teaching, research, and community service.

Professor Dessalegn emphasized that in this era of technology, instructors must prepare thoroughly before entering the classroom. He noted that modern teaching practices require alignment with technology and innovative learning methods.

According to Professor Dessalegn, Bahir Dar University is a long-standing higher education institution with a successful 64-year history; it comprises nine campuses and 104 academic programs, and employs a workforce of over 7,250 academic and administrative staff. It was stated that the training covered teaching approaches tailored to diverse student needs and abilities, active teaching methods, classroom management, blended learning, digital learning resources, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching.

Furthermore, participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge they gained, develop their own lesson plans, and share their experiences through a process supported by practical exercises, discussions, and feedback.

Overall, the program aims to enable new academic staff to gain a deep understanding of higher education pedagogy, implement student-centered teaching methods, and enhance the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.
