Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) donates learning materials to Bahir Dar University with the support of the Finnish Universities Union (SYL)

The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) donated learning materials to Bahir Dar University with the support of the Finnish Universities Union (SYL). The donation included audio recording devices, computers, and desks.
The handover ceremony was attended by ECDD Project Coordinator Ato Yohannes Teklay, Project Officer and Sign Language Interpreter Ms. Hana Degfie, Bahir Dar University Project Focal Person Dr. Zelalem Temesgen, Director of Disability and Participation Dr. Solomon Mengiste, and other experts.
Dr. Zelalem Temesgen stated that the project is making a significant contribution to strengthening inclusive education at the university. He remarked that awareness trainings for leaders and professionals, capacity building trainings for students with disabilities, and exchange of experiences with other universities have been carried out. He also expressed his gratitude to ECDD and SYL, stating that today’s support will further enhance the learning and teaching process of students with disabilities.
Similarly, Dr. Solomon Mengistie noted that the support will help students benefit from equitable educational opportunities, and stressed the need to continuously strengthen cooperation with the project.
ECDD Project Coordinator Ato Yohannes Teklay stated that this support will help facilitate the learning process for students with disabilities, and urged the university to continue to allocate budget and attention to inclusive education.

After the ceremony, the ECDD team visited the Poly and PEDA campuses to visit the infrastructures built to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.  Following the visit, they expressed their satisfaction with the work done, especially the accessible toilets built in the Poly campus and the wheelchair accessible ramps leading to the library in the Peda campus, and assured that they will further strengthen their cooperation with the university. Bahir Dar University continues to strengthen its cooperation with partner institutions to create a fair and accessible learning environment for all students.
