Bahir Dar University and Italian Institutions sign 1 billion birr agreement to advance, leather, footwear, research and industry linkages

A Landmark Partnership for Ethiopia's Leather Industry!
The agreement was signed with Italy's Marche Region International Cooperation and the CVM International Project, marking the largest international project in Bahir Dar University's history.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, BDU President Dr. Mengesha Ayene described the initiative as a transformative step that will strengthen the University's expertise in textile and fashion technology while promoting technology transfer, research, skills development, job creation, and stronger global competitiveness for Ethiopia's leather sector.
Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the two-year project will be implemented in the Amhara and Oromia regional states with a budget exceeding 800 million Birr. The partnership is also expected to expand market linkages, provide practical training opportunities for students, and deepen academic and industrial collaboration between Ethiopia and Italy.
The agreement was officially signed by Dr. Mengesha Ayene, President of Bahir Dar University, and Natalino Barbizzi, Coordinator of Marche Region International Cooperation.
