Bahir Dar University’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences has reviewed its performance against the 2025/26 plan and outlined key priorities for implementation in the 2026/27 fiscal year. The review forum, which also featured the presentation of the new annual plan, was held at Tibeb Hall with the participation of senior university officials, college leadership, academic staff, medical professionals, and administrative personnel.

Presenting the performance report, Dr. Amsalu Worku, Corporate Director for Academic Services at the College, stated that the College currently enrolls more than 2,100 students across 53 academic programs, including approximately 30 international students. He highlighted several achievements, including the upgrading of classrooms and laboratories, the procurement of medical equipment, measures to enhance staff and student safety, improvements to campus aesthetics and green spaces, and the professional development of 80 instructors pursuing further education both in Ethiopia and abroad.

The report also identified several challenges that affected plan implementation, including security concerns, budget and transportation shortages, unforeseen emergency tasks, and the frequent turnover of medical professionals.
Similarly, Dr. Degalem Baye, Medical Director of Tibeb Giyon Medical College, reported that the institution continues to provide public healthcare services through seven inpatient buildings, 500 hospital beds, 18 operating rooms, and more than 23 specialized medical services.
Key priorities for the 2026/27 fiscal year include equipping the facility with essential medical supplies to reduce patient referrals to other institutions, accelerating digitalization, upgrading infrastructure, strengthening research activities, improving the quality of specialized medical services, expanding operating room capacity, and enhancing access to free medical services.
Overall, the review forum served as an important platform for assessing achievements, identifying implementation challenges, and setting strategic priorities for the coming year.
