Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU), hosted a three-day training workshop on SWAT+gwflow, an open-source hydrological model aimed at advancing water resource management. The workshop, part of the International Training Program (ITP), was organized by Bahir Dar University in collaboration with the University of Ghent (UGent) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
The training focused on developing skills in geohydrological modeling using SWAT+gwflow and included 20 professionals from 16 public institutions in the Amhara Regional State. Topics covered during the workshop included an introduction to SWAT+gwflow, model setup and calibration, and drought analysis using model outputs.
Participants, who represented various governmental institutions, engaged in hands-on exercises with direct applications to the Upper Blue Nile basin. The workshop provided them with practical experience in state-of-the-art, open-source model development, preparing them to apply these techniques to other watersheds in future water management projects.
