The Institutional Change Office at Bahir Dar University has launched a six-day training program on grant proposal writing for 42 female PhD researchers.

Opening the program, the University’s Vice President for Research and Community Service, Professor Enyew Adgo, expressed his satisfaction that the university is leading in the number of female PhD scholars. He emphasized that empowering female researchers not only enables women to address gender-based challenges independently, but also enhances the overall effectiveness of research through their integrity and efficient use of resources.

“The establishment of the Women’s Research Fund will support researchers in conducting studies that address societal problems and generate practical solutions,” said Professor Enyew. He also noted that the training would enable participants to engage with major international research partners, both domestically and globally.

Dr. Eleni Admasu, President of the Bahir Dar University Chapter of the Association of Women Researchers, stated that the training focuses on equipping participants with the skills and knowledge required to secure funding through competitive project proposals. She added that the program covers key areas such as proposal writing, strategies for successful competition, budget management, and other capacity-building components.

The training is being delivered by senior scholars from Addis Ababa University, including Professor Yalemtsehay Mekonnen, Dr. Lulit Tilahun, and Dr. Tigist Tadesse.

Bahir Dar University continues to advance its vision of becoming a leading institution in education and research by promoting the participation of female researchers and strengthening its research culture.
