Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU), in collaboration with Agelgil Eco Packaging and the Royal Academy of Engineering, organized a business idea pitch competition aimed at fostering innovation among young and talented innovators. The competition served as a platform for participants to present their ideas, focusing on transforming them into impactful, real-world solutions.

Ms. Afomia Andualem, CEO and Founder of Agelgil Eco Packaging, welcomed contestants and guests, providing a brief overview of the program’s objectives and significance.

Dr. Muluken Zegeye, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Community Service, expressed gratitude to the program organizers in his opening speech. He emphasizing the importance of leveraging contestants' innovative ideas to address societal challenges in areas such as agriculture, health, tourism, and economic development. He encouraged participants to think globally while contributing locally, urging them to align their work with international standards.

In his keynote speech, Prof. Seifu Admasu underscored the critical role of innovation in tackling societal issues and creating economic opportunities. He emphasized the need for fostering innovation ecosystems within academic institutions, calling for financial backing to support and scale impactful ideas. He also highlighted the value of competitions like this in nurturing talent, solving cultural and economic challenges, and creating employment opportunities.

The competition showcased over 70 creative ideas, out of which the top ten were selected after rigorous evaluation. These finalists presented their ideas for further assessment, receiving constructive feedback from judges. Ultimately, three standout ideas were chosen to represent Ethiopia at the prestigious HEPSSA Continental Competition under the Research and Innovation Capacity Building Program for higher education institutions in sub-Saharan Africa.

The program’s emphasis on mentorship, constructive feedback, and pathways to international competitions supports the growth of young innovators and entrepreneurs. It lays a strong foundation for fostering innovation-driven solutions to societal challenges while positioning Ethiopia as a hub for entrepreneurial excellence.
