Sensitization Workshop on Higher Education Partnership in Sub-Saharan Africa Held at BiT-BDU

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University, organized a Sensitization Workshop focused on Higher Education Partnership in Sub-Saharan Africa. The workshop aims to foster a research-oriented culture, enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and skill development among students, address the engineer shortage, and drive innovation. It also seeks to support sustainable development and strengthen ties between academia and industry.
 
Dr. Mitiku Damitie, Acting Scientific Director of BiT, welcomed attendees and highlighted the institution's commitment to excellence in teaching, maintaining high standards, and promoting internationalization and partnerships. He expressed optimism about the workshop, stating that it would facilitate collaboration to address common challenges and optimize resource utilization, ultimately enhancing general education across Sub-Saharan Africa. 
 
Dr. Geta Kidanemariam, presented an overview of the HEPSSA project, highlighting the vital role of industry-academia linkages in bridging theory and practice, enhancing innovation, and developing a skilled workforce. He emphasized the mutual benefits of these collaborations, such as providing insights into industry challenges, enabling research commercialization for universities, and offering valuable industry exposure for students. Following that, Dr. Muluken Zegeye, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Community Service, emphasized the critical role of partnerships in advancing engineering education. He highlighted the challenge of transforming academic research into practical applications and stressed the need for collaborative efforts and resource sharing to drive innovation and technological progress in Sub-Saharan Africa.
 
The workshop concluded with a comprehensive discussion among stakeholders, a review of questions raised, and the establishment of a clear direction for future initiatives.
