Consultation on Education in Emergencies Held
The Office of the Dean of the College of Education, Research and Community Service, in collaboration with the Institute of Pedagogy and Education Research (IPER), jointly organized a half-day workshop on Education in Emergencies in Amhara region. The workshop focused on the damage inflicted on the education sector as a result of conflicts in the Amhara region and explored possible ways forward. The consultation brought together representatives from the Regional Education Bureau, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Department of Education of the Bahir Dar City Administration, as well as teachers and leaders from Bahir Dar University.
Mr. Atinkut Yalew, UNICEF Education Specialist for the Amhara region, made a thought provoking presentation on the current status of education in the region under conflict conditions. In his evidence-based presentation, he highlighted the impact of the crisis on education and outlined possible strategies for ensuring continuity of learning during emergencies. He also invited participants to reflect on the potential roles of university academics in such contexts.Dr. Dereje Taye, who facilitated the discussion, provided a brief overview of priority areas for future engagement.
Finally, Dr. Asnakew Tagele, CEO of the College, delivered the closing remarks, calling on all stakeholders to play their part in supporting the young who are out of school due to recurring conflicts in the region.
