Mr. Edemialem Gedefaye successfully defended his PhD dissertation in the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, entitled “Planning and Design of AC-Coupled Semi-Autonomous Solar Photovoltaic Microgrid: An Energy Solution for Residential Complex,” under the advising of Prof. Samuel Lakeou at the University of the District of Columbia, USA, Dr. Tassew Tadiwose at BiT-BDU, and Dr. Tefera Terefe from ASTU.
Mr. Edemialem’s research aimed to design a semi-autonomous photovoltaic (PV)-based microgrid power system to address energy scarcity and enhance the reliability of distribution systems. By integrating solar energy into residential power grids, his dissertations to provide a sustainable and efficient energy solution that reduces dependence on traditional power sources, thereby mitigating energy shortages and ensuring a more stable and resilient electricity supply for residential complexes.
External examiners, consisting of Dr. Mengesha Mamo, Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University (AAU), Dr. Milkias Birhanu, Associate Professor at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (ASTU), and Prof. James Katende from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), posed numerous questions and comments during the defense which were followed by thorough responses of Mr. Edmialem.
Mr. Edmialem's successful defense of his dissertation marks a historic moment, as he will become the first graduate of the PhD program in the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at BiT-BDU. Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering wishes to congratulate Mr. Edemialem Gedefaye on his outstanding academic achievement.
Congratulations to Edmialem, his family and the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering!
