Annual project meeting held at BDU

BDU hosted the annual project review meeting from from June 11-14, 2018. The meeting is held at Jakaranda hotel. Project team members from NTNU, UJ, and BDU, representative from NORAD, deans and department heads from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and BDU STEM center directors participated in the meeting. Progress and financial report of the project for 2016/17 budget year are presented and discussed. The participants also visited BDU STEM center for which robotic lab is established by the project fund. 

First round capacity building training provided for MED students

As part the BDU-NORHED project plan to enhance the capacity of the masters students sponsored by the project, three capacity training programs are held in November and December 2017. Thre trainings focus on Basic computer skills, Acadamic writing and Basic Amharic (for students from South Sudan).

Orientation provided for new MED students

The first batch of students for the Masters of Education (MED) degree programs developed as part of the BDU-NORHED project have arrived at Bahir Dar University and provided orientation on the 14th of October 2017. A total of 41 students registered for the two programs (21 for the MED in the teaching of Science Subjects and 20 for the MED in the teaching of Mathematics). While 35 of the candidates are from Ethiopia, six of them are from South Sudan.

First round STEM Pedagogy training for school teachers is provided

One of the tasks planned to be undertaken in the BDU-NORHED project is provision of short term training for primary school science and mathematics teachers. The first round of training is held from July 4 – 12, 2017 at the main campus of Bahir Dar University. The training focus was on four issues: STEM pedagogy, Gender Responsive Pedagogy, Multiple Intelligence and Assessment, and Action Research. A total of 100 (51 mathematics and 49 science) teachers from selected school at Amhara Regional State three zones (South Gonder, East Gojjam, and West Gojjam) took part in the training.
