(Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, July 14, 2026) - The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at Bahir Dar University (BDU) successfully hosted a collaborative and forward-looking validation workshop at the Zenzelma Campus. The event marked a critical milestone in aligning the university’s academic offerings with dynamic industry standards, modern veterinary practice, and global educational trends. The workshop gathered a diverse group of key stakeholders, including industry and employer partners, university administrators, veterinary faculty, professional regulatory bodies, and students. Together, they actively evaluated and validated major proposed curriculum changes aimed at enhancing the overall quality, relevance, and employability of Bahir Dar University’s veterinary graduates.

The program commenced with an introduction by Dr. Shewatatek Melaku, Vice Dean of SVM, followed by a brief welcome address from the Dean of SVM, Dr. Yeshwas Ferede. A foundational highlight was delivered by Dr. Asrat Derib, Executive Director of Total Quality Management at BDU, who provided an overview of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Outcome-Based Curriculum (OBC) framework. By shifting the educational focus from traditional inputs to measurable student learning outcomes, Bahir Dar University is positioning itself to graduate highly skilled, practice-ready veterinary professionals.

At the core of the workshop were the detailed curriculum presentations of two newly revised academic programs. Dr. Habtamu Tassew, Chair of the DVM Curriculum Revision Committee, presented the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) pathway. Following this, Dr. Tadesse Yayeh, Chair of the BVSc Curriculum Revision Committee, presented the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) curriculum.

These presentations set the stage for an engaging general discussion and feedback session, moderated by Dr. Solomon Tibebu, where participants exchanged valuable insights, asked targeted questions, and provided constructive feedback to make the OBC revised programs meet the highest academic and quality standards. The workshop concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Yeshwas Ferede, who expressed his sincere gratitude to all the participants for their active engagement and invaluable contributions.  He also outlined the immediate next steps for incorporating the feedback received into the final curriculum drafts, reaffirming the school's commitment to developing high-quality responsive academic programs through outcome-based education.
