Rationale of the Program
Taking its cue from the nation’s current educational policy, societal needs, and the universities role, mission, vision, Goals and objectives, the Undergraduate program in History and Heritage Management is grounded in the belief that it is necessary to develop a cadre of trained people in the nation who are sensitized to the region's history and heritage, and who can articulate and disseminate an understanding of that history and heritage at all levels of the Ethiopian Society and beyond. Graduates in History and Heritage Management are likely to become an important resource in the formulation of national, sub-regional and regional policies for sustainable economic and social development in Ethiopia.
The program is interdisciplinary in its design. It comprises a core of courses in History and Historiography, Heritage management, Museum, Tourism, Archaeology, Records and Archives, and a selection of common courses drawn from different disciplines in the Faculty of social sciences and other faculties within the University such as Humanities. Synergies between disciplines will be translated into innovative forms of delivery, including articulation with other programs. In the program students will be required to read a specified number of courses as indicated for each program and complete a research paper or thesis according to the specified requirements. All the core courses will be designed for face-to-face and home-study delivery.
Admission Requirements -Students who have completed the preparatory programme in the social science stream and those applicants who have obtained diplomas either majoring in history or minoring in history and other related social science fields.
Duration of Study- Duration of Study is three Years.
Graduation Requirements- Students who have taken all the required courses successfully, i.e. minimum of 180 and maximum of 192 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA 2.00) and with no “F” grade in any of the courses will be eligible for graduation.
Medium of Instruction- The medium of instruction for the program is ENGLISH.
Degree Nomenclature- The degree awarded after the completion of the three-year undergraduate History and Heritage Management programme is referred in English as: The Degree of Bachelor of Arts in History and Heritage Management (B.A). The Amharic translation of this shall read as: ”የአርት ባችለርዲግሪበታሪክናቅርስአስተዳደር”
