Road and Transport Engineering Laboratory

The Highway Engineering Laboratory, which is located in building B–18, is a teaching and research laboratory equipped to conduct standard tests for soils, aggregates, bituminous and paving materials/asphalt mixtures to assess their engineering properties and behaviour.

The objective of having such laboratory is to make the students familiar with principles and procedures of testing of highway materials and mixtures.

Various experiments are conducted to evaluate and characterize the properties of aggregate, bitumen and bituminous mixes. Having conducted tests, the students will be able to select the most appropriate materials for highway construction based on material characteristics, engineering properties, design requirements, cost, availability, and expected service life. Moreover, students will be familiar with quality assurance principles to make effective material acceptance decisions that conform to accepted plans and specifications.

Currently, it is being used as a testing laboratory for undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers. It also gives consultancy services for private, governmental and non-governmental organizations.
