Master of Science in Information Technology
There has been great deal of changes in technology and industry practices globally, that are driven by several factors, such as,advancements in Web technologies, emergence of new architecture paradigms (such as SOA, SaaS, Cloud Computing etc.), ubiquitous mobile computing, IT infrastructure frameworksthat have become source of guidelines for IT practices in organizations(viz. COBIT, ITIL, ISO 17799), ERP package software integration in organizations etc.
Planning and managing an organization‘s IT infrastructure is a difficult and complex job that requires a solid foundation in applied computing as well as management and people skills. The professional context in which the current IT graduates do their work has changed considerably over the past decade due to above said factors.
To cope with the above said changes in technologies, as well as to address the continuing shortage of IT professionals, a Master of Science program in Information Technologyis deemed necessary. The government of Ethiopia also adjudges this program in academics as an immediate need for the country. In developing this curriculum, the advanced aspects of the knowledge areas suggested by ACM/IEEE - IT Curriculum Model 2008 was considered appropriate.
A graduate from this program is expected to:
- develop excellent understanding and practical skills of the domain within which he/she works.
- develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills to thrive in a globally competitive environment.
- design and implement information technology solutions that enhance the performance of organizations.
- exhibit strong ethical principles and good interpersonal communication and team skills.
- exhibit successful performance in many organizations in different roles as an IT professional.
