The Vice-dean of research and the postgraduate apparel faculty were responsible for coordinating research activity and the PG office. Currently, the V/D office is coordinating more than 8 grant research projects and different PG courses.

Apparel Faculty of EiTEX, Bahir Dar University offers courses in a wide range of disciplines as well as numerous specialized Master's and Ph.D. programs :
Master programs:
M.Sc. in Fashion Design, M.Sc. in Fashion Technology, M.Sc. in Leather Technology, and M.Sc. in Leather Products Design, and Engineering
Ph.D. Programs:
Ph.D. in Fashion Technology, Ph. D in Leather Engineering specialization in Leather Technology, Ph. D in Leather Engineering specialization in Footwear Design, and Engineering
General Application Requirements
● Applicants should be in good health and of good character, respect Ethiopian habits and customs, and abide by both Ethiopian law & regulations as well as the university’s rules & regulations.
● Language proficiency requirements for programs:
ü Applicants from non-English-speaking countries should submit proof of English language proficiency. Required to provide proof of English proficiency, such as an IELTS score of 6.5
ü Applicants who were fully taught in English to get their previous academic degree are not required to provide proof of English proficiency such as IELTS scores but must submit relevant supporting documents (e.g., a certificate issued by the graduating institution to prove that you were taught fully in English).
ü International students can apply, and African students have priority over others.
Master programs:
1. M.Sc. in Fashion Design
The Master of Science in Fashion Design ensures a powerful skill set of creativity and Fashion Design. The course aims to polish students in various areas of Fashion Design and the amalgamation of research, creativity, innovative designs, garment construction, advanced draping, and design communication. The Masters in Fashion Design course is drafted to extend their knowledge and creativity to help the students innovate unique and original designs.
Eligibility Criteria
● Candidates who have a Bachelor of Art (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Fashion Design, Fashion Design and Merchandising, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Illustration, Fashion Journalism, Garment Engineering, Leather Engineering, Leather Product Engineering, Leather Products Design and Engineering, and equivalent degree in the related disciplines with 3.0 GPA/4.00
● Recommendation Letters: Two letters from professors.
● (Optional) Academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements,
● Other requirements will be treated according to the legislation of the respective Universities.
Duration of study: 2 Years, 4 Semesters, 114 ECTS
2. M.Sc. in Fashion Technology
The Master of Science in Fashion Technology program aims to train students in the field of the advanced Garment Manufacturing process, product development, and management principles so that the graduates can work at higher levels of management and make optimal strategic decisions in the Fashion Industry. The program focuses particularly on advanced apparel product design, manufacturing technology, and production management particularly in the fields of Research and Development, Quality Management, Design of New Products & Processes, business leadership, and Economic Viability Studies. Further, it equips skills such as monitoring production and quality with advanced equipment and instruments which needs well-familiar personnel with the latest knowledge of business, equipment, and processes that advance the fashion industry.

● Candidates who have a Bachelor of Science (B.s c.) Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Garment Engineering, Textile Technology (textile design and weaving), Apparel Technology/ Applied Arts and Crafts Technology/Garment Technology/Textile marketing and Processing/Textile Technology/ Fashion Technology, Polymer Science and Technology, Fiber Science and Technology and equivalent degree in the related disciplines with 3.0 GPA/4.00

3. M.Sc. in Leather Products Design and Engineering
Students who complete the Master's Degree in Leather Products Design and Engineering successfully will have the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to the sustainability, competitiveness, and innovation of professional activities and research related to the international leather goods, garments, and footwear industry, and to enable graduates to be creative, adaptable, problem solvers in the challenges of the professions in the rapidly changing environment that exists in the globe. They will be highly skilled and able to make decisions in approaching new ideas and solving problems in new, global environments.
Eligibility Criteria
● Candidates who have a Bachelor of Science (B.s c.) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Leather Engineering, Leather Product Engineering, Leather Technology, Leather Products Design and Engineering, Fashion Design, Polymer Science and Technology, Fiber Science and Technology, Garment Engineering, and an equivalent degree in the related disciplines with 3.0 GPA/4.00
● Applicants must have a sound knowledge of basic engineering and sciences; Applicants from other engineering disciplines are also eligible for admission after completing a bridge-course program
● Recommendation Letters: Two letters from professors.
● (Optional) Academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements,

Duration of study:2 Years, 4 Semesters, 120 ECTS.
4. M.Sc. in Leather Technology
A Master of Science in Leather Technology can prepare students for careers in the leather industry, including positions in research and development, production, and innovation. Some programs offer practical training in leather manufacturing operations, such as tanning, beamhouse, and finishing, sustainable leather manufacturing. A program that aims to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the leather industry's sustainability, competitiveness, and innovation. It’s also a great way to expand your knowledge and skills if you are already in the leather industry. You will focus on the science and technology of leather manufacture in a way that will prepare you for senior tannery positions.
Eligibility Criteria
● Candidates who have a Bachelor of Science (B.s c.) or Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Leather Engineering, Leather Product Engineering, Leather Technology, chemistry, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, Biology, Polymer Science and Technology, Fiber Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Environmental Sciences. and equivalent degree in the related disciplines with 3.0 GPA/4.00
● Applicants must have a sound knowledge of basic engineering and sciences; Applicants from other engineering disciplines are also eligible for admission after completing a bridge-course program

2. Ph. D in Leather Engineering specialization in Leather Technology
The PhD graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skill, and attitude needed in leather engineering with specializations in leather technology. A program that aims to teach students the skills and knowledge to identify problems related to leather science and technology and the leather tanning industry. Design and conduct problem-solving research that addresses the national and international challenges of the leather sector, how to manage research projects/programs of leather technology and related disciplines in research, and higher learning institutes. Conduct basic and applied research in the area of leather technology. Organize and lead the production and marketing of leather enterprises of different sizes and characters;

Admission requirements for the program are as follows:

2. Ph. D in Leather Engineering specialization in Footwear Design and Engineering
The PhD graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skill, and attitude needed in Leather Engineering with specializations in Footwear Science and Technology. A program that aims to teach students the skills and knowledge to identify problems related to footwear materials, footwear designing, footwear machinery and sustainable footwear manufacturing. Also provided the skills and knowledge how to design and conduct problem-solving research that addresses the national and international challenges of the footwear industry, how to manage research projects/programs of footwear science /technology and related disciplines in research, and higher learning institutes. Conduct basic and applied research in the area of footwear industry. Organize and lead the production and marketing of footwear enterprises of different sizes and characters.

Applicants should log into https://studentportal.bdu.edu.et/OnlineApplication first, fill in the application information online in English, submit necessary documents, and print out the Application Form “.

● Application Form for International Students with a photograph.
● Update CV with no longer than two pages, and format it clearly with sections like education, research, and skills.
● Original notarized (authenticated) copy of the highest education or degree certificate. The documents must be in English (English notarized translations are required for other languages).
● Original transcripts or original notarized (authenticated) copies of the transcripts. The documents must be in English (English notarized translations are required for other languages).
● Two recommendation letters from two associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles, or a senior expert in a related field. (There is no specified format for the recommendation letters, please specify the name of the referee and contact information, all letters must be signed by the referee)
● A photocopy of the Valid Passport page of personal information.
Application Fee
Application fee is 300 birrs for Local students and 10 dollars for international students. It should be paid online by EiTEX account (10000096185007); cash is not accepted. The application fee is not refundable once paid. (Please note: Application fee is also required for scholarship applications.)

Accommodation
Selam Campus
On-campus accommodation: EiTEX, Bahir Dar University has 6 student apartments, which provide Dormitory. Admitted candidates should book the dormitory. Scholarship students who have been admitted under the free accommodation policy do not need to book a dormitory, the school will arrange accommodation.
Study Mode, Duration and Tuition
All students should ensure an involvement of full-time study. For masters, the study duration of academic programs is two years. For Ph.D. programs, the study duration of all programs is three up to four years.
For Self-funded students
Self-funded options are also possible. Students who self-fund, funded by his working organization, NGO, and others, will pay only tuition fees, and the university will provide dormitory and tuition fees for master's degrees and Ph.D. degrees.
