GIS training to Natural Resource Managers

BDU in partnership with EENSAT project is offering GIS training to Natural Resource Managers

Geospatial Data & Technology Center (GDTC) of Bahir Dar University in collaboration with Ethiopian Educational Network to Support Agricultural Transformation (EENSAT) project offers five days long hands-on GIS training for Natural Resource Managers working at Woreda (District) level.

The training which is underway for five days (March 29-April 02, 2021) is offered by qualified GIS & Remote Sensing professionals from GDTC, BDU. The training aims to provide the knowledge and skills needed for the collection, interpretation, and management of spatial information, using geographic information systems and remote sensing technology. It also aims to support the planning and decision-making processes in natural resources management.


The topics covered in the training are: Basic concepts in GIS and Remote Sensing and its relation to Natural Resource Management (NRM), Watershed Delineation, GIS & Remote sensing based Watershed Management & Planning, Collection & analysis of spatial data for NRM, Geoprocessing for NRM, and Extracting Land Use/Land Cover data from Google Earth.


EENSAT is an innovative capacity development project working to strengthen the use of geo-data for agriculture and water to enhance food security and socio-economic development in Ethiopia in line with the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) priorities at the participating Higher Education institutions (BDU, AAU & MU) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes.
