Introduction

The College of Business and Economics is currently running Seven undergraduate BA programs delivered in regular, extension, and summer and distance modes. All programs are a three /four year programs in regular mode. The Extension mode delivery requires four/five years while, the summer require five/six years and Distance mode of delivery require seven semesters. The programs are listed here under.

Program Objectifies: The program is aimed at producing graduates that can have adequate knowledge, skills and attitude towards application of management concepts. The management program should enable the graduate to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical know-how pertinent to management profession so that will be competent nationally and internationally. The program prepares students to become professional managers capable of executing Human Resources Management, Information System Management, Marketing Management, Operational and functional areas.  

Admission: Students admitted to BDU’s Management department should Ethiopian Higher education entrance Exam as per the ceiling grade point set by the Ministry of Education.

In-take: The number of students admitted in every academic year depends on the yearly intake capacity plan of the department.

Duration of the Study: While a student who fails to meet the minimum graduation requirement may stay as per the legislation of the  university, the duration of the study for BA degree in Management is:

Four years for students admitted in Regular program

ü

Five years for students admitted in Extension and distance program. The durations are arranged in three academic semester; Semester I, Semester II and Summer Semester for the first four years and the graduate year will have Semester I and Semester II

Degree Nomenclature : The degree offered after successful completion of the program is called  Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management” or “የአርት ባችለር ዲግሪ በማኔጅመንት”in Amharic.

Extension Program Tuition Fee: A student admitted for BA degree in Management in Extension program is expected to cover all expenses accordingly

3.2 Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance

Description:

This program focuses on filling the need for competent professionals of recent flourishing organizations due to rapid pace of development of economy in the country. The program is designed to produce competent and qualified accounting and finance professionals that assist the accounting, auditing and financial management needs of private, government, Not-for profit organizations in Ethiopia. Students admitted to the program should take minimum total credit hour of 118; score a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00, no ‘F’ grade in any of the courses. Having passed the courses, fulfilled the graduation requirement of the university, the candidate will be awarded the ‘Bachelor of Arts in Accounting & Finance’. The regular program has a three-year period of study. The extension program has four years of study. The summer program is completing in four years and it has ‘two semesters of distance course’ and ‘one summer session of face to face course delivery' for each year of study.

Eligibility criteria:

In order to be admitted in the regular degree of the program a student should qualify for the Ministry of Education's standard set   as a benchmark for entries to higher education.

In addition, as part of fostering excellent performance diploma graduates and/or improving long standing service in government organizations and/or performing a commendable service, the Accounting and Finance program may admit a Diploma holder to its regular degree.  For this an applicant needs to score at least a CGPA of 2.00 and satisfy other requirements issued by the program accordingly.

3.3 BA in Marketing Management

Description of the Program:

The program is established with rigorous concern to address marketing research and analysis; marketing strategy; implementation planning; organizational management and cross functional leadership in marketing; reporting measurement and control a cost-efficient manner with view of domestic and international marketing practices.

The duration of the study for BA in Marketing Management is three years. A student who fails to meet the minimum graduation requirement may stay as per the legislation of the respective universities.

Its expected duration is three years with possibilities for extension and early completion. A student who fails to meet the minimum graduation requirement may stay as per the legislation of the respective universities. 

Graduate students will be awarded the ‘Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing Management’ if they fulfill the following requirements:

A minimum credit hour of 110/180 ECTS

ü 

A minimum Cumulative Grade point Average of 2.00

ü 

No Fx, F, NG, I, in any course and

ü 

Compliance with the regulation of the University

In addition to meeting the general admission provisions of the graduate program of Bahir Dar University, applicants to the BA Degree in Marketing Management program is based on:

12th grade completion at least with minimum qualification to join higher education

ü 

Having minimum diploma in related fields and with two years work experience as an advance standing and COC certified.

ü 

And others as per   the national admissions requirements set by the ministry of Education.

3. 4 BA in Economics

Description of the Program:

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics is designed to introduce students to fundamental micro and macro-economic theories, to enable them critically think and apply data analysis techniques for the study of contemporary economic problems. The curriculum is designed to familiarize students to various economic choices society faces and acquaint them with skills to exercise judgment in evaluating public policy. 

The programis designed to prepare students for careers in both private and public enterprises and pursue graduate studies in the field of Economics.

3.4 BA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Description of the Program:

In today’s competitive environment, managing the supply chain and effectively controlling supply chain costs is critical for every business. Then this degree program designed to produce well qualified, competent, responsible and ethical logisticians and supply chain management experts on the areas (transportation, purchasing, logistics, port operation, value chain, custom clearing operations, inventory controlling, ware housing & materials Handling, )  who will work in public, business, and non-governmental organizations. Its expected duration is four years. A student must accomplish 256 ECTS with at least a CGPA of not less than 2.00 without scoring an “I”, “Fx” and “F” grade in any of the courses, will be awarded the Bachelor Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

3.5 BA in Tourism Management

BA in  Tourism Management

Description of the Program:          The main objective of this BA degree program in Tourism management is to produce qualified manpower that can effectively contribute for the development of the tourism industry in Ethiopia by making use of the vast potential of the country in the sector.

Duration of study: Three years with six semesters for the regular program, and 4 years with 11 semesters including summer. Students admitted to the program are required to take total of 183 ECTS and prepare future career. A student who completes the three years of study successfully will be accepted as per Bahir Dar University’s senate legislation and awarded the BA in Hotel Management.

Eligibility criteria:  Applicants seeking admission to the Tourism and Hotel Management program must be accepted as per Bahir Dar University’s general admission provisions of senate legislation.

Annual intake: The annual intake capacity of the program is 45 students.  Currently there are 41 regular program students; i.e. only one batch (2nd year students since it is launched last year.

3.6 BA in Hotel Management

Description of the Program: The main objective of this BA degree program in hotel management is to  impart  all  the due  knowledge, skills, attitudes, professionalism and  personality  through classroom instruction, practical/lab room training and Apprenticeship exposure in high class hotels, whereby students will become competent managerial  work  force  in   the  industry.

The duration of study is three years with six semesters for the regular program, and 4 years with 11 semesters including summer. Students admitted to the program are required to take 110 Cr. Hr (182 CP) and prepare future career. A student who completes the three years of study successfully will be accepted as per Bahir Dar University’s senate legislation and awarded the BA in Hotel Management.

Eligibility criteria: Applicants seeking admission to the Hotel Management program must be accepted as per Bahir Dar University’s senate legislation general admission provisions.

Annual intake:The annual intake capacity of the program is 40 students.  Currently there are only 29 students (2nd year students since the program is currently launched.
