Vision
The vision of AMSE is to strengthen Ethiopia’s research in applied materials science and solar energy technologies, promoting scientific progress, increased solar energy utilization, and sustainable development. 
The laboratory aims to serve as an East African hub for materials research, photovoltaic technologies, and solar resource assessment and forecasting, supporting academic excellence and national energy development. 

Mission
The mission of AMSE is to:
* Conduct high-quality interdisciplinary research in applied materials and solar energy technologies.
* Develop advanced photovoltaic systems assessment, foretasting and planning to support sustainable and clean energy within Ethiopia.
* Provide training and research opportunities for MSc and PhD students in materials science and solar energy, contributing to capacity building and national impact.
* Support innovation and technology development through collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and the community.
* Promote national and international scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange.
* Support and promote researchers working in materials science and solar energy by strengthening collaborations through the AMSE Lab with Ethiopian universities, government agencies, and nongovernmental stakeholders.
