Geospatial Data & Technology Center (GDTC), BDU provides Geographic Information System (GIS) Training for Natural Resource Management experts

Geospatial Data & Technology Center (GDTC) in collaboration with Vice President for Research & Community Service Office of Bahir Dar University is offering a GIS training for twenty-three Natural Resource Management experts working at Zonal and Woreda (District) level. The training is a tailor-made training designed to enable Natural Resource Management experts to use GIS in their day to day activities.

The ever rising human population is depleting natural resources in a range of time making resource management a prior agenda for concerned bodies. A lot of management practices have so far been advanced in this regard. With the current trend in the advancement in the field of information technology, natural resource managers have now laid a lot of emphasis on the use of remote sensing and GIS technologies in the management of natural resources. These technologies provide a platform based on which managers can generate informative data and information that can be used to make sound decisions for sustainable development.

It is with the above assertion that the Geospatial Data & Technology Center (GDTC) office arranged the current training. The content of the training includes introduction to GIS, working with ArcGIS, data extraction from Google Earth, Data collection using GPS and displaying in ArcGIS, spatial and non-spatial data integration and watershed delineation for development planning. At the end of the training, it is expected that the trainees will be able to appreciate the capability of GIS technology in natural resource management. They will also be able to use GIS technology in their day to day activity.
