The Lake Tana Biosphere Reserve is located in the Amhara National Regional State of Ethiopia. It covers a total area (terrestrial and aquatic) of 6958.85 km2andcomprisesLake Tana, the largest highland fresh water lake in Ethiopia and the main source of the Blue Nile River, which provides important ecosystem services. Lake Tana accounts 50% of the total inland water of Ethiopia. The lake also consists of several ancient monasteries and churches, some of which have history dating back to the 13th & 14th century.
