Introduction
In Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the graduate study in regular program only. The objective, courses, and graduation requirements are more or les the same. There are slight differences in the admission requirement and course breaks downs.
Admission Requirements
Applicants shall be admitted to the M. Sc. program when they fulfil the following requirements:
- Applicants should have first degree in Geography, Civil Engineering, Water resource Engineering, Agriculture, Geology, Meteorology, Computer Science and other related fields from a recognized university.
- Applicants should have at least a CGPA of 2.00 in undergraduate course from any recognized University.
- An Applicant should submit letters of recommendations, two from his/her undergraduate instructors testifying his/her ability to successfully complete the program, and the other from a referee who is familiar with the applicant’s professional work and promise.
- Applicants should pass entrance exams set by the department.
*Priority will be given for those who have certificate in basic computer skills.
Objectives
The goal of the Geo-information graduate program is to train professions that will have critical understanding and competence in the development of systems and tools for the acquisition, processing, transformation, analysis, storage, presentation and use of geo-information in solving environmental and societal problems. These skills help professionals to be able to design and carry out multi-disciplinary research and development projects in various field of geo-information science. More specifically the program intends to train professionals that will be able to:
- Apply Geo-information technology to generate, integrate, analyze, visualize and interpreter spatial data,
- Identify the principles of database and data models and to use database query languages,
- Apply research skill to formulate and carry out independent research in the general field of geo-information science,
- Analyze problems encountered in professional geo-information practice, and develop appropriate methods to solve the problem,
- Raise the public awareness about the role of geo-information in solving local, national and global environmental and societal problems via through regular publications and journals, workshops, seminars, etc. Teach Remote Sensing and GIS courses in colleges and universities.
